My red Leithaberg version comes from the Ried Pratsche, which stretches up into the hills directly behind Oggau and from where you can see across the reed belt to Lake Neusiedl. You can also feel the lake when it settles on the leaves and grapes, carried by warm winds. The cool limestone counteracts the mild climate and together they provide exactly the conditions you need for purist, clear and precise Blaufränkisch.
Nothing happens in the cellar that wouldn't have happened 70 years ago, and the aromas of the past and present are probably not entirely dissimilar: fine red fruit, a hint of lemon, black pepper, a few ripe plums and a salty undertone linger on the palate.
